I often do receive free gear from various companies as you’ve seen on this site. These are the 3 methods:
Most often, brands reach out to me and offer some of their products in exchange for a review or some social networking exposure. I decline more than I accept because I only review gear that I feel is exceptional and something I’d actually use in everyday life.
Once in a while if I come across new gear that strikes my interest, I’d contact the brand and offer a proposal – free gear for an honest review and posts on my social networks. However, if their gear is less than exceptional, I send it back to them, sans a review.
Two or three times a year when I take consulting work, I keep some of the then newly purchased (by the client) equipment that was used for the consultation.
