Survival Go-Bag /// VinjatekThis is a series of posts about ‘how to live out of a backpack’ as a vagabond, minimalist, nomad, expat, traveler or for everyday life as a lifestyle.

One does not need a home full of things to live. Just like ancient times, all we need is what we can carry on our backs.

INTRODUCTION   //

I’ve been living out of a backpack for the past 3 years across the globe despite having a an apartment in Miami and New York City. This kind of lifestyle is like being homeless but with homes all around the world.

What exactly is “living out of a backpack”?

It means functioning and thriving like any other person but with just the contents of what fits in a backpack.

So all your (immediate) possessions and essentials can be comfortably carried like a portable closet; clothes, toiletries, gear, meds, financials, kits, documents and anything one needs to live in the modern world.

Anyone can live a nomadically minimalistic lifestyle like this but most people are inundated with materialism – thus interfering any idea of how to live out of a backpack.

That we should and must accumulate for a lack of a better word, “stuff” in order to be normal and happy.

Once you realize you don’t need so much stuff, living out of a backpack makes sense and becomes easy.

Ironically it’s a foreign concept to contemporary society despite it being one of the most ancient ways to live. So it takes some lifestyle adjustments and the realization of the many misconceptions of the material world.

These changes aren’t sacrifices for the sake of minimalism or mobility. It’s trimming the fat of your lifestyle to make it leaner, more efficient and flexible.

Consider it lifestyle exercising and dieting.

Home is where I put my backpack down.
