For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Explore & Exercise

Vagabonding is about exploring the world, so explore the airport like it’s a new city as they tend to be massive with plenty of things to see and do. All the while you can get a tireless but effective workout.

Don’t forget photos, airports are beautiful feats of architecture and often even have art hanging around.

Sleep & Rest

Airports are designed to be “sleepable” and rest friendly. While you may not find the most pleasant sleep, its perfectly normal and accepted to sleep while you wait for your flight. No better way to kill time.

If your flight will be boarding soon, sleep at the departing gate – otherwise, look around the airport for more comfortable seats in a quieter and darker area.

Gadgets & Books

Get your iPad, laptop, smartphone or book out and get your read, browse, game or work on. You’d be surprised at how peaceful and suitable it can be for those activities at airports.

Don’t forget to charge your devices – many airports have charging stations with power outlets and USB hubs for public use.

Eat & Drink

Food (even good food) is easy to come by at airports so starving shouldn’t be an issue, day or night. Bars and pubs are also common and an excellent way to kill time at airports.

All food and alcohol prices will be inflated at restaurants and chains, for better prices, try the convenience store or stalls.

Socialize & Mingle

International airports are full of other travelers from all parts of the world so meeting foreigners and making friends could make your time at the airport fly by – you may even find romance.

Because of the weariness of travel and jet lag you may forget to exchange Facebook or contacts, you may never see them again.

Shop & Browse

Airports are like shopping malls full of well known brands and sometimes shops with decent souvenirs relevant to the country, duty-free. However, merely window shopping while waiting to board can be a great time killer.

If tempted to actually buying anything because it’s duty-free, do a quick check on the internet (your device or public computer) to see if the duty-free makes up for the likely hiked up “airport tax”.

With a never ending wait time at an airport, it can be a daunting experience but keeping yourself occupied with these 6 ways (and many other activities) can make it pleasant and make time move fast.
