/// Hedonism as a Part of Everyday Life
…typically associated with too much bliss and leisure.
Hedonism is a school of thought that argues that pleasure is the primary or most important intrinsic good. In very simple terms, a hedonist strives to maximize net pleasure (pleasure minus pain).
Sweets and narcotics are enticing and abused because it gives us enhanced levels of instant gratification, which is never healthy or productive, especially after prolonged use.
That is not hedonism, that’s chasing a high, craving a fix. [Responsible] hedonism is enjoying life as it is.
Hedonism is about having a good time, every time. This doesn’t mean going off on a million dollar yacht every weekend or popping a bottle of champagne every night.
It’s about taking indulgence in everyday life, within your own personal means and reach. Money helps, (if that’s your thing), but perception is what really matters.
Just as important is responsibility and self discipline. Enjoying life’s pleasures while understanding the value of the phrase “reap the fruits of your labor”.
This is why living a hedonistic lifestyle is not only possible but obtainable and sustainable to almost anyone.
